History of Youngs Veterinary Partnership
Jeremy and Karen Young both qualified from Bristol University School of Veterinary Medicine in June 1984 and were married the following year. After working in a variety of predominantly small animal practices around the UK we purchased the Welland Road practice from Mr. Edmonds in 1987. The practice had been established by him in 1979. We had a vision of developing a high standard, friendly, caring small animal practice which one day would be recognized by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Veterinary Hospital. After a lot of investment and hard work and dedication from all our staff we were very proud that we achieved RCVS "hospital status" at our first attempt in 1997. At our last RCVS inspection in 2013 we again passed our inspection as a Veterinary Hospital. We remained a Veterinary Hospital until late 2015. At that time we took the hard decision, that to improve the work life balance for our staff we would allow our duty staff to not remain on the premises on the odd occasion that we did not have any in-patients in the hospital. Unfortunately the RCVS Practice Standards insist that a member of staff is on the premises at all times - even if there are no in-patients. We felt that this was too onerous but please be reassured that NOTHING else has changed and if an animal is admitted for treatment there will always be a member of staff on the premises 24/7 - even on Christmas Day. We have still remained in the RCVS Practice Standard Scheme and are now listed as a Small Animal Practice. We like to support the scheme and would urge anyone to ensure the level of cover (especially out of hours) given to their pets if they are admitted to any practice for treatment, particularly if they are not a hospital. You can still contact us be telephone in person 24/7 and we still ensure a member of staff stays on the premises for all animals admitted for treatment by the practice. We have also upgraded our fire and intruder alarm system (ADT monitored) and we do now have several members of staff living next door at 146. If you have any questions please ask any member of staff.
Jeremy and Karen firmly believe that truly caring for the animals trusted to our care is the most important function of our practice. Every member of staff has been chosen for their genuine care for animals and passion for their work. We know how much our pets mean to us and the very special role our pet plays in our family. We would like to become your partner in your pet's health care. We aim to treat your pet as we would our own, "Trust us to care".
